The Musée du Louvre keeps the most important French collection of 17th and 18th century European pastels. Painted for the most part under the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI, these extremely delicate works allow to evaluate the genius of their most famous artists, as Rosalba Carriera, Maurice Quentin de La Tour, Jean-Baptiste Siméon Chardin, Jean-Baptiste Perronneau, Jean Étienne Liotard, Jean-Marc Nattier or Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun, and also of less known masters as Marie-Suzanne Giroust, Adélaïde Labille-Guiard, Joseph Boze or Joseph Ducreux.
This book is the catalogue raisonné of the 160 pastels kept in the Louvre, some of them from the end of the 18th century. Each work is reproduced in colour.
