Exhibition at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la ville de Paris, 18 May - 5 November 2017
Although jewels are undeniably an artistic form, they aren't always considered as works of art: seen as too feminine, too precious, too ornamental or too primitive, jewels represent a taboo in the art world.
This exhibition catalogue aims to analyse these negative a priori through 250 jewels: works by artists (from Man Ray and Picasso to Thomas Hirschhorn and Danny McDonald), designers (from Lalique and Georg Jensen to Tony Duquette and Bless), contemporary jewellers (as Gijs Bakker, Otto Kunzli or Sophie Hanagarth) or jewellery houses (Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Victoire de Castellane), and anonymous pieces, more ancient or non-occidental.
