Coromandel screens, in printed and painted lacquer, belong to the most prestigious sets of Chinese art at its peak in the 17th and 18th centuries.
This book is illustrated with a great number of screens coming from private collections, unknown by the public. The great screens are detailed following their mythological or symbolical themes.

The descriptions of the decors allow to discover the life of the dignitaries, men of letters, women and children, and also allegoric animals, gardens, lakes, and real landscapes. Are also studied the founders of the companies and trading posts which opened commercial exchanges between the Far East and Europe, and, finally, the use the Western did of these screens using them in other creations.
