La Galerie Dorée De La Banque De France Trois Siècles De Pouvoir, D'art Et D'histoire

Auteur(s) : Arnaud Manas

The Galerie dorée (golden gallery) is an architectural masterwork by François Mansart. Built in the 17th century in the Hôtel de La Vrillière, celebrated as the most completed in Paris, it served as a reference for the Galerie d'Apollon in the Louvre. The paintings, the vaulted ceiling and the panelling illustrate covertly the life of King Henri IV, the marriage of Louis XIII and Anne of Austria, the Louis XIV's wars. Owned by the Banque de France since 1808, the gallery has hosted illustrious figures and exceptional events; it is still part of French and international political history.

Richly illustrated and well documented, this book recounts the transformations of this history-filled place through its successive owners.
