La Faïence Baroque Francaise Et Les Jardins De Le Nôtre

Auteur(s) : Camille Leprince

Exhibition by the Galerie Vandermeersch, XXVII Biennale des Antiquaires, Grand Palais, Paris, 11-21 September 2014

Le Nôtre's gardens were punctuated with earthenware basins, fountains, and other pots for orange trees, often from Nevers, few of which were resistant to bad weather.

It is this memory that expert Camille Leprince resurrects from rare surviving pieces, shards found in the soil of Versailles, paintings and engravings of the period. A chapter is also devoted to the ephemeral porcelain Trianon, built in Versailles in 1670 for Mme de Montespan.
