Jean-Baptiste Boulard became a master in seat carpentry in 1755. Executing seats in Louis XV's style, including the famous asymmetric “lit d'ange” sofa, he worked for a clientele of distinction: the Count of Artois in Bagatelle, the Duke of Penthièvre for Bizy Castle, the Marquis of Gontaut and of Montesquiou... Appointed carpenter for the King's storage in 1777, he realises numerous orders in Louis XVI's style devoted to the main royal residences, Versailles, Versailles, Fontainebleau, Compiègne, Rambouillet, Saint-Cloud, la Muette, Choisy, les Tuileries, Paris.
