" Then my father proposed to Alberto that he invest the central agora of the Fondation de Saint-Paul, which was then being built, and it was Alberto himself who would paint the bronzes - and not patinate them - and who would install them in the courtyard, now known worldwide as the "Giacometti Courtyard. He chose, and often changed, the locations for each of his sculptures: around the "Great Head of Diego" he placed the "Woman of Venice" series, the two "Walking Men" and the two "Great Standing Women"... He spends a lot of time at the Foundation. He is happy among his sculptures, he often changes their disposition adding "The Cube", removing "The Dog", nothing is fixed. He likes his large figures to be confronted with nature, with trees, with the color of the brick of the Foundation, or with the color of the terracotta slabs of the rooms. This is why he painted some of the bronzes we have in the Foundation, to match the light and colors of the south. (...)" Extract from the interview Adrien Maeght - Franz-Olivier Giesbert
