Edouard Pignon : Entre Ciel Et Mer, Les Plongeurs

Auteur(s) : Collectif

Exhibition at the Musée des Jacobins, Morlaix, 25 June - 16 October 2016

The Plongeurs series, painted from the early 1960s, is probably one of the most emblematic in the serial mode of production adopted by Édouard Pignon (1905-1993) from 1945. Essential in the career of the artist who is considered one of the main actors of figurative painting in France in the immediate post-war period, this period is judged by many observers as one of the most accomplished in the painter's creative process.

This catalogue of the exhibition devoted to Les Plongeurs aims to revisit the main issues of this painting - the construction of space, the articulation of forms, the question of colour, the representation of the visible - while highlighting the modernity of the work.
