Charles Errard : La Noblesse Du Décor

Auteur(s) : Emmanuel Coquery

Rival of Charles Le Brun and first director of the French Academy in Rome, French artist Charles Errard decorated a large part of Louis XIV's Louvre, rooms in Fontainebleau and the first Versailles, the new parliament in Rennes or the Tuileries theatre. Despite of this, he totally disappeared of the collective memory.
This book aims to (re)discover Charles Errard. Along with his work are studied his beginnings, his family, his first travels to Italy, his return to Paris in 1642 at Louis XIV's disposal until his exclusion by Le Brun of Versailles building site, and his "second Roman career" and the creation of the French Academy.
