Miró: Un Brasier De Signes La Collection Du Centre Pompidou

Auteur(s) : Collectif

Exhibition at the Musée de Grenoble, 20 April - 21 July 2024

Like Picasso, the work of Joan Miró (1893-1983), with its creative freedom and latent iconoclasm, occupies an unprecedented place in the twentieth century, giving it the stature of myth and elevating it to the level of universality. Looking at the world around him with both wonder and gloom, Miró gradually gave shape to what his biographer, the poet Jacques Dupin, described as a 'Miróworld' and a 'blaze of signs'.

This exhibition catalogue brings together more than 130 of Miró's works, most of which belong to the collections of the Centre Pompidou. Emphasising the painter's iconoclasm, creative energy and artistic modernity, it covers his entire career, while offering a privileged look at his ultimate work from 1960-1970 (nearly 90 works), in which he asserted his desire for freedom and experimentation with unprecedented power.
