Exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, 30 June 2022 - 23 January 2023
Encouraged to become a fashion designer by Paul Poiret, Elsa Schiaparelli (1890-1937) made a name for herself in France and the United States from 1927. She set up her fashion house in Place Vendôme in 1935 and frequented the artistic avant-garde, particularly the Surrealists, with whom she worked closely until her house closed in 1953.
This exhibition catalogue invites us to rediscover Elsa Schiaparelli. It highlights her position as a woman artist and her collaborations with Dali, Man Ray, Cocteau, Bérard and Leonor Fini - who designed the bottle of her famous perfume, "Shocking" - and includes major pieces from the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, clothing and accessories.
