Published on the occasion of the reopening of the Meunier Museum in Brussels, this monograph is devoted to the work of Constantin Meunier (1831-1905), a Belgian realist painter and sculptor renowned for his vision of the working class.

Initially a painter of religious scenes, Meunier was deeply influenced by his visit to the Borinage, the black country, the mining basin of the province of Hainaut, and set out to represent the world of work. After a six-month stay in Spain, sculpture began to play an increasingly important role in his work. A collection of his works is kept in Ixelles in the Constantin-Meunier Museum, which was set up in the artist's studio.
