Exhibition at the Louvre-Lens, 18 May - 20 August 2016

Conductor of the arts under Louis XIV's reign, Charles Le Brun is the sole embodiment of an era: the "Grand Siècle" (17th century), considered as the peak of French art, which spread all over Europe. During his long and rich career, he created works of great diversity.
This catalogue gathers the 235 works of the Louvre-Lens exhibition: paintings with historical, mythological or religious subjects, sculptures from the gardens of Versailles, drawings, tapestries, valuable furniture and decorative items coming from aristocratic residences. It includes notably the Sacrifice de Polyxène, discovered in Paris in 2012 in Coco Chanel's suite, during the renovation of the Ritz.
