Raoul Dufy : La Mode Des Années Folles : Une Collection Particulière

Exhibition at the Musée des beaux-arts, 29 November 2019 - 4 May 2020

Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) is one of the most important French artists of the 20th century. Painter, draughtsman, ceramist, fabric designer, decorator, he knew, like Paul Gauguin, how to abolish the boundaries between major and minor arts.

This exhibition catalogue focuses on a lesser-known facet of the artist, who experimented a great deal in the field of decorative arts. He collaborated with the famous couturier Paul Poiret and the Bianchini-Férier company, one of Lyon's leading silk manufacturers. Dresses and fabrics give a glimpse of the boldness and accuracy of Dufy's discoveries, which largely fed the inventiveness of the great couturiers of the Roaring Twenties.
