French artist Simone Pheulpin (1941-) uses a very simple material for her work: strips of unbleached calico, a traditional raw cotton from the Vosges. Unrecognizable, this material is modified in its structure and nature by its shaping into a regular and dense pile of folds, maintained on the inside by a multiplicity of pins to the exclusion of any other process. The organic and mineral aspect of the works thus obtained reveals poetic spaces where the eye dreams.
This reference monograph sheds light on Simone Pheulpin's work, alternating between works reproduced in their entirety and details. The book also includes contextual information on exhibitions and a biography of the artist.
