Exhibition at the Centre national du Costume et de la Scène, Moulins, 25 May 2024 - 05 January 2025
Pioneer and figurehead of the French new wave of choreography in the 1980s, Philippe Decouflé's (1961-) reputation has spread beyond France's borders. The choreographer is known for his eclecticism and incessant artistic research, and his creations, which straddle the border between dance, film and live-action cartoons, give rise to worlds that are both fantastic and joyful, and constantly evolving. The stage costume, for which Decouflé works closely with renowned designers, is an integral part of his creations, where fashion and spectacle are inextricably linked.
From the choreography for the opening ceremony of the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics to his collaborations with Cirque du Soleil, this exhibition catalogue takes an in-depth look at the choreographer's world. Richly illustrated with photographs and drawings, it also pays tribute to the designers who worked with him, including Philippe Guillotel, Laurence Chalou and Jean Malo.
