Le Château D'azay-Le-Rideau

Auteur(s) : Collectif

Built on an island in the middle of the Indre River during the reign of François I, the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau has become one of the most admired Renaissance monuments in the Loire Valley. It has been able to transform itself over time, while continuing to keep its 16th-century heritage alive, thus cultivating a strong identity, bequeathed by its first owners, Gilles Berthelot and Philippe Lesbahy, and by its successive occupants, including the Biencourt family in the 19th century.

In 2017, at the end of a restoration campaign led by the Centre for National Monuments, which mobilised many different trades over several years, the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau reopened its doors, thoroughly redesigned and restored to all its charm and splendour.

This monograph, which retraces the history - in part unpublished - of the château, its collections and its park, brings together specialists in each of the aspects mentioned and invites us to a fascinating rediscovery of this jewel of the Loire Valley.
