Georges De La Tour

Auteur(s) : Jean-Pierre Cuzin

The life and work of Georges de la Tour (1593-1652), painter to Louis XIII and forgotten for three centuries until 1915, remain shrouded in mystery. La Tour, who was probably trained in Paris and Italy, settled in Lunéville in 1616 where he first established a reputation as a regional painter before attracting a Parisian clientele.

With its abundant iconography, including numerous details of the works, this book recomposes the artist's creation by situating it in his biography, however incomplete it may be, and sheds new light on the painter's corpus (attributed works, copies, studio works or followers).
