The textile crafts of Sindh, Pakistan, are among the oldest in South Asia. A kaleidoscope of colours, mirrors and embroidery, the textiles of Sindh feature motifs of desert flowers, peacocks, scorpions and sand dunes. The territory's topography has led to the emergence of clothing styles and ornaments that have become identity markers for the different groups in the region.

This book analyses the history, craftsmanship, styles and stitching of textiles from Sindh, which some scholars believe was the crucible in which the textile traditions of Gujarat and Rajasthan were forged. It focuses on a spectacular private collection, some of which has been exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the National Museum of Scotland.

Illustrated with photographs of 120 remarkable objects - tunics, turban belts, dowry bags and animal ornaments - the book includes essays on the history of the region, its ethnic groups and their different styles, and the many stitches used in Sindhi embroidery.
