This book is dedicated to the Djo-Bourgeois, Élise (1894-1986) and Georges (1898-1937): Georges was a decorator and architect, a contemporary of Pierre Chareau and Charlotte Perriand, and a favourite of Robert Mallet-Stevens, the Noailles family and Princess Faucigny-Lucinge; Élise was one of the leading textile designers of her time, alongside Hélène Henry and Sonia Delaunay.

Married, they were also loyal collaborators. Their creations were distributed by the department stores of the time, the Louvre in France and Metz & Co in Holland. They were the first to develop a minimalist style combining geometry and flat tints of colour, which heralded the modern creations of Andrée Putman, Tadao Andõ and, in fashion, Issey Miyake and Helmut Lang.
