As a child, Alfred De Dreux met Theodore Gericault. Like him, he became a passionate rider and a talented horses's painter. His painting full of naturalism, movement and strength fixed his model from every angle through a very modern style. He succeeded in describing the intimacy between man and animal. His productive work gives us a true picture of the upper equestrian society during the reigns of Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III.
